I have now seen a few episodes of Supersize vs. Superskinny and I have noticed a few things.
One thing I get annoyed at for all shows seems to say that carbohydrates (for example pasta, potatoes, rice etc.)
Carbohydrates (or more common, carbs) are not dangerous. The thing one should look out for are the wrong kinds of carbs. White sugar for example is wrong carb. Vegetables and whole grain products are examples of good carbs.
Trough watching the Glycemic Indes or the Glycemic Load you can easy see what kinds of foods you should eat. People are different, they are resistant to carbs in different ways, some can eat loads, some prefer more meat, but that does not mean carbs are dangerous. Unless you get 20grams of carbs your brain will not work as it should.
Here are some examples of GL and GI charts:
and you can your self google it, or buy one of the many books on the subject.
The second thing I get annoyed with is that they are so afraid of cheese. Cheese is not dangerous either. If you just eat enough of it. Then there will not be a problem. You will get some of the fat your body need, and you get calcium and protein and Vitamin-D from dairy products, something people need, especially if they live in countries where there is winter and dark.
Measure is the word. Those who cut carbs of completely (for example body builders) are only doing it for a short time, and they still eat enough to be able to exercise. Proteins keeps you full longer, but it is carbs that gives you energy to do anything.
Both carbs and cheese is okay, as long as you keep to enough cheese, and carbs are okay as long as you don't eat enormous amounts of sweets, fizzy drinks, crisps (chips), fried food and pastries.
One thing you should look out for on the other hand is salt. To much salt will cause among other things, high blood pressure, and can one guess where you find salt? Yeah, you're right crisps (chips), fried foods, and also semi-manufactured products you buy at the store.
I hope this has helped and put some hope to people who believe that cheese and carbs are a no-no when losing weight.
